Comments: I don't remember Bob driving this particular car... But then again, he told me once that everything he drove was for sale!  Maybe he did real good with it on opening night and somebody made him an offer he couldn't refuse!  Many people don't know it, but Bob was involved with the building of many, many racecars during the 60's and 70's and is known as one of the best fabricators of all time in the local racing circles.

08/03/06 Bob Scott I also was a big fan of Bob. This looks like a coupe he ran in at both EWS on dirt and also on asphalt at Wall for a few races before it was sold to? (the plexi-glass shield and tires point to Wall).

Back then you could still do that and think as the innovator that he was he was looking for the best of both types of tracks and found out he was wrong.

Hope Bob looks at this site and can add his thoughts.
08/03/06 3Wide I don't want to attempt to look like I know what I'm talking about regarding chassis and racecar fabrication, but I think it was right around this time that tracks were starting to allow pretty much fabricated race car frames...  where a purpose built asphalt racer could be built... OR a purpose built dirt racer could be built without the constraints of trying to base it off a stock frame.  Around this time guys were sometimes still using part of an original frame... but often it was only the very front with the rest being 100% fabricated.  (I mentioned it elsewhere in the Vault, but Al Michalchuk's brand new Modified Sedan was built using 3 X 3 bar with a front end of a "stock" vehicle welded to the front.

When the rules started opening up, and they no longer had to run a "stock" frame, that was probably the end of cars that could dominate on dirt one night and then on asphalt the next.  I'm sure there are exceptions, but if you carry that out to current day, look how different the dirt cars and asphalt cars have become.

Speaking of that, I wonder what was the last car to win a Modified Feature on dirt and on asphalt and in what year was this feat accomplished...  (I don't know the answer, but someone out there will!)
08/03/06 Billy Walker (krash 63) If I remember right, this was his Wall car before the sedan body.   There are not any shakers for the dirt in front of rad and no screen on ft bumper.
03.25.12 Kevin Varanyak Not sure what year but I'll bet it was before 1975 and if I had to guess who the driver was I'd say Gil Hearn
07.15.12 Scott Ely

Saw Bob Rosell at New Egypt Speedway last night (7/14) and asked him if he had changed the body on this car before he ever ran it.  He said that Gil Hearne had showed him this 3Wide photo and he (Rossell) said that he doesn't remember this car!  Just goes to show you that Rossell built so many cool, good hot rods that a few have slipped through the cracks in the memory bank.  Bob was, and is one a kind.
