Comments: | I
remember this uniquely colored little coupe from the early 70's at Flemington with its
robin's egg blue...or is it more of an Aqua-man Green... with white trim... at a
time when many guys ran black frames and and black bumpers. Bill Singer would
announce the driver as Joseph Kelly I assume as to not confuse people with the "Joe
Kelly" that ran the red and white Fodor #13, along with many others. I'm also assumming that this is the same race team that is known as "Pop's Racing out of Hamilton, NJ (off Arena Ave.) that still fields a Super Stock for New Egypt Speedway and has had such drivers as Kim Cooke, Mark Rinaldi and Todd Cray behind the wheel. Not sure if Joseph ever won a sportsman feature, but we all noticed this little coupe, and it is definitely one of the cars that made the show, "The Show" at Flemington. |

10/08/06 | Ned Stites III | My wife and I always rooted for Joseph Kelly. He always ran fast, but the high-dollar teams always seemed to get by in the end. I always looked forward to watching him race. This was one of my favorite cars of that time. |
10/08/06 | KevMc | The great thing about your site Joe, is when I click on a new photo, see a
photo of a racer I hadnt thought of since I was in 2nd grade and think to myself "WOW! I remember that car! " Thanks for the memories, KevMc |
10/12/06 | ANDY STYNER | I WORKED FOR BOB GIBBONS [ POP] AND JOE KELLY FROM 1975 TO 1977 , THEN LATER ON WHEN JOE RAN STREET STOCKS AT EAST WINDSOR. THEY WERE GOOD PEOPLE TO WORK FOR, HAD A LOTTA GOOD TIMES. NOW JOE AND I LIVE IN DIFFERANT PARTS OF FLORIDUH. |
10/24/06 | Mark Yaple | "Pop" Gibbons is Joseph Kelly's stepfather. They were the perfect example of what a dedicated, hard working low dollar team could do against the big boys with better equipment. |
11/15/06 | Kevin B. | Joe I remember asking my father to take us past the Kellys shop just off arena Dr. You could see everything right from the street. FOND MEMORIES!! Chuck Masons 12+ I think used to be housed right around the corner, I believe his towing shop still is.Chuck used to live around the corner from my friends we would ride are bikes by all the time just to look at the awsome 12+ sedan. |
12/13/06 | Andy Horne | Chuck Mason's shop is still there. He has the most pictures of that time then anyone I know. His family room is covered floor to ceiling with 8x10's of the late 60's and early 70's. I tried a couple of times to get him to post some but with no results. He also has alot of powderpuff racing pics since his wife Carol was in all of them. I remember the cat fights after those races. What a time. |
