from Duane: This picture was taken on April 8, 1972 and that is Dave Hollenbaugh
standing next to the car. The Crew: Bob Hoffman Jim Pitcher Mike Hutchinson Keith (Bones) Danser Hass Herb Sample Car Owner: Don Deese & Associates This car was purpose built for East Windsor and Flemington. It was a bit ahead of it's time in that my father Don Deese and a prominent research Doctor at the time used computer aided design and several materials that were a few years from making it to the mainstream in modified racing. Power was a 454 Chevrolet built by a guy that I can't remember his actual name only that he was referred to as "Captain Action" by everyone on the team. There were quite a few pages added to the rule books after this car made its appearance. One of the most interesting was roof width. Originally the body wasn't much wider than the frame. If you remember, Dave was a big guy and his elbows would almost stick out the windows. Opening night they had the team add some wings to the side to widen it out like the other cars and then the next week had them add about 14" to the center of the roof to make it wide like the other cars. This car never wanted for anything and was operating with one of the larger budgets of it's time but unfortunately never realized it's potential and the team dissolved on some rather bad terms. |

04/06/07 | Kevin B | My buddy Bob Hoffman will be glad to see this photo, What a great looking modified!!!! |
04/06/07 | 3-Wide | The body kind of looks like the #Z1 sedan that Lee Hendrickson drove right
around this time (maybe a year or 2 earlier). Hey Duane, where was the photo taken? I heard that Dave Hollenbach was from somewhere around the Allentown, NJ area??? |
04/07/07 | Duane | This picture was taken right outside the shop where the car was built at Dave's farm.....he wasn't a farmer....just lived on a farm in Allentown New Jersey. The sedan that you are talking about that Lee Hendrickson drove came right after we debuted this car and caused quite a stink because at that point they let the narrowed body go after giving us so much trouble over it. |
04/08/07 | Walter Onora | Great looking modified. Dave was a steady runner back in the early to mid seventies. What ever happened to Him?? |
04/08/07 | Mark Yaple | You may remember John Wagner driving the "Stump Jumper" before Dave took over the driving duties. |
04/08/07 | 3Wide | Mark, where was the farm specfically in Allentown, NJ that this car was keep at? It aint all that big out here! |
04/08/07 | Bob Hoffman | Dave's farm was not in Allentown. It was north of the little town of Dutch Neck about a half a mile out of the town. THIS PICTURE HAS BROUGHT BACK MANY GREAT MEMORIES. Crew member's name was Milton Hutchinson. Thanks Kevin B for letting me know this picture was on this site. |
04/08/07 | Bob Hoffman | Walter: Last word on Dave was he was living back in the hills of PA.
Duane Deese, thank you so much for sending in the great pictures of the cars. Wish I had taken pictures of all of the cars that I helped build and worked on over the years. You have brought back many great memories! THANKS AGAIN. Bob Hoffman |
