Comments: A great combination... Mike Grbac in the Emmett Alfrey owned #47.  I'm guessing that since the # is "47" that Tom Carberry Sr. was involved with the engine, but I'll let you guys help us out with all that.

Almost 30 years since Mike's passing and tell me this picture doesn't make you feel like we'll all be at East Windsor this Friday Night (or Sunday afternoon) watching Mike with that big old steering wheel in his hands, and his white full face helmet with his chin held slightly up as he pilots this beautiful modified around the 1/2 mile.  Mike's position behind the wheel looked so relaxed... so comfortable.. he made it look easy.

05/15/07 Brian C. Loutrel The year is definitely 1974. This was a great looking and great running modified. Not only did Mike win races with it, but Stan Ploski also won a number of features in this car when Mike was out of action with an injury during 1974. I remember a memorable feature event at Flemington in May
1974 when Stan first took over the car when Mike was injured.

Gerald Chamberlain was dominating the modified ranks at Flemington in 1974 in the Bullock #76 Pinto and Falcon. Gerald and Stan had an incredible battle for the lead for a number of laps. Gerald tried a number of times to get by Stan, but Stan held him off for his first win of what had been a dismal 1974 for him. I also remember Stan totally dominating a Sunday night 50 lap feature at East Windsor in this car.

In addition, one of the Snyder racing videos has some neat 8mm movie footage taken by Ace Lane Jr. in the 47 while Mike is driving the car around Flemington. The driver's postion in the 47 was offset to the left, so there was room for Ace to sit in the car and take movies. Not sure, but this may have been the first "in-car" camera.
05/21/07 Barry Miller I loved this car and I became a Mike Grbac fan after his performance in it at Reading one night in '74. One Friday night East Windsor had rained out so he came to Reading and they got there just in time to run the consi. He qualified through the consilation and he started way back in the feature. He came through the field to finish 9th in the feature and there were not too many Jersey guys in the mid-70's who could come to Reading and run up front. I do not count Glenn Fitzcharles in that group because he was a Reading guy who switched to Jersey.

I went back to the pits after the race to get his autograph and to my surprise he was on crutches, he was racing with a broken foot! If he had two good feet he may have finished higher or maybe even won. I started pulling for him after that night and he was always an exciting driver to watch. Unfortunately, I was at Reading the night he was killed.. so sad.

He left us way too soon but I will always remember his drive through the field that night in '74. He left an impression on me that night that I will never forget.
05/29/07 Scott Ely Maybe you know this alrready but isn't that Tom Carberry Sr. in the red flannel shirt next to the front of the #47?
08.05.13 Tom Alfrey

Tom Carberry was the head mechanic on the 47.He was a very  smart man. track champion owner for Emmett Alfrey as owner.  At 2 different times Mike and Stan had win streaks of 3 .
