Comments: | Here's a great driver... and a great team... but this particular car is most remembered for a flip that went from the exit of turn 2 to the entrance of turn 3. Fortunately the well built Norcia #81 protected Stan and he escaped uninjured, although that accident is often blamed for the broken arm injury. (As documented elsewhere in the Vault, Stan broke his arm once behind the wheel of the Jim Horton Sr. #43, and once behind the wheel of the #4T7. Both of those crashes occurred in the the first turn after the throttle stuck. Neither of those cars got upside down, but the impact was very hard and Stan ended up missing a lot of seat time.) |

06/29/07 | Glenn Grafton | I remember those crashes at Flemington. If I remember correctly, there was a bad fire in at least one of those crashes. Stan was lucky that he was not more seriously injured. |
06/29/07 | 3-Wide | The fire was on a separate accident involving the Emmett Alfrey burgundy and gold #47 that was also driven by Mike Grbac. I don't remember any fire on either of the turn 1 accidents that Stan broke his arm. I do remember a different accident though where Stan had rolled the Alfrey #47, which did result in a fire. |
11/22/08 | Robert | The team was having a hard time working the bugs out of the steering. |
09.19.17 | Johnny Q | I was there that night when Stan flipped the 81. I don't think Stan ever drove a Norcia 81 again as this car or a replacement was back on the track again after the flip (in 1974) with Paul Fitzcharles driving. |
