great photo from Steve - Not sure who is behind the wheel of the Deasey
Pinto but I'm betting that you guys will know! Now that's one strong
looking car... Photo must have been taken during warm ups as that's Joe Hall's Sportsman Pinto behind the #707. |

07/03/08 | Lenny Slemmer Jr. | This may be Dizzy Dean at the wheel. He drove the Deasey 707 for a brief time. I have video footage of him behind the wheel of this car at Reading. |

I really believe the
driver here in the Donkey is Jimmy Boyd, CA sprintcar driver who had an
illustrious career in the open wheelers and in fact won the very first World
of Outlaw Sprint car race at Devils Bowl in 79. I had the opportunity to
visit with Jimmy and his lovely wife at the recent Louis Vermeil Sprint Car
Classic (Labor Day 2019). We spent the evening together watching the races
and reliving many east coast exploits that Jimmy experienced back east in
the Weikert 29 and the Deasey 707. Jimmy informed that he drove this
version of the Donkey numerous times at Bridgeport and Windsor. Seeing
pics of Jimmy running sprinters allows me to notice the distinct similarity
of the helmet, googles and how he sat in the car. Wish I had his address I
would be sending this pic along to him. George Gwynn, Frederick, MD |

I don't think it's Jimmy. He wore a silver helmet with a peak and a black leather mud mask. I know he drove the 707 coupe, I have a photo of him in it at Bridgeport I bought on Ebay several years ago and I remember him in the coupe and not the Pinto. Last I knew his wife Betty Boyd was active on Facebook, some body could try to contact her. |
