Dark blue... white numbers and highlights... silver
headers and wheels, a simple, functional hood, and a little pony tire on the
left front... Opening night, 1975, Flemington Speedway. This is the first year for Al in his self owned, self built Gremlin. In 1976, he ran this same car with a light blue paint job and then in its final year, Al ran this same #292 with a white paint scheme... I remember reading that he built the car for around $3500 and ran the same 427 out of a Corvette for all 3 years! It was built on a bare chassis provided by Mike Kostic. This little Gremlin was one of my all time favorite cars, and it's because of Al and guys like him who dreamed... designed... built... and raced, week after week, that we'll never forget the excitement felt heading to our favorite speedway... knowing that we were only an hour or so away from another great night of racing. |
