Comments: | I don't remember Craig behind the wheel of this particular car. Always associate Craig with the #301 or the McMann #4. Neat job on the Gremlin body on this one as although the car looks a little narrower than a stock Gremlin (might be stock width...), they still managed to keep the fuel filler and the back lights in the rear deck, along with the side marker lights and emblems. |

09.27.09 | Charles McClung | That picture is from Nazareth, and if I am not mistaken, it looks like an Emmett Alfrey car. |
09.28.09 | TAlfrey7 | Yes that is the Emmett Alfrey car for Somerset NJ. Craig went to Syracuse in this car. |
09.28.09 | 3Wide | Tom, did this car ever run at Flemington? Maybe with a different body? Also, was this after the 47 that Mike and Stan ran? |
09.29.09 | TAlfrey7 | This is the Mulligan car with out A Frames. It had a Gremlin body first then a Mustang 2 body. Then a gremlin again. Tom Gillman, Fritz Epright, Craig, Stan and of course the man the car was built for, the late great Mike Grbac. They all drove for Emmett in this car |
09.29.09 | 3Wide | Thanks Tom - Is the way it appears above the last way it was run? Also, it eventually become your Sportsman #7Jr? |
09.29.09 | Walter Onora | I also remember Craig driving the Tony Sessley "16" for a brief time in the mid seventies. |
09.30.09 | 3Wide | We've also have a photo of him in a white #29 somewhere around here too. |
10.08.09 | John Larsen | Tommy- If you look close the A-frames are still on the car
in this picture. The straight axle didn't go in until the fall/winter after
the season ended in 1975. I believe this picture is from late September or
early October of 1975 just before Syracuse. It was just after the Eastern
States 200 that the front end was changed if I remember right. Joe- This car actually became Tommy's sportsman 7Jr. in 1977 or 1978 and I was given Tommy's old 7Jr. about a week before Mike's accident in 1978. Tommy had his best season in this car in 1979 almost winning on several different occasions and finishing often in the top 5. It was painted white and maroon when it became the 7Jr. |
10.08.09 | 3Wide | Was the car you ended up with a coupe? |
10.08.09 | John Larsen | No. The car I had was Tommy's old '55 Chevy frame car with a
different Gremlin body on it. Tommy first ran that in 1975. It was
Cranberry/Gold in 1975 then White/Cranberry from 1976 on until it's last
race in 1980. That car had several different suspensions on it along with
several different front clips. The Mulligan car (shown here) was built in 1974 and ran with a Cranberry and gold trim Gremlin body on it. Mike Got hurt and Stan drove the car until Mike recuperated. Stan flipped between 1 and 2 at Flemington and the car was rebuilt around late July of 1974. The car was repainted and relettered (minus gold leaf lettering) before Syracuse still in 1974. Between the 1974 and 1975 seasons a Mustang II body took the place of the original gremlin. Mike ran that until late August and the car was parked and redone for Syracuse with the Gremlin body shown here and Craig drove it. At some point in 1977 Tommy parked the old 7Jr. and the 47 turned into a pretty cool sportsman ride- https://3widespicturevault.com/70spics&vitals/c11.30.06_7JR_ALF_FLM_0070_1.htm if I do say so myself. So- #47 Mulligan car- New in 1974 w/Gremlin body (Cranberry/Gold), then repaired/repainted Gremlin 1974 (Cranberry/Gold), then Mustang II 1975 (Cranberry/Gold-until late August), then Gremlin again September 1975 -1977? (Red/White/Blue w/yellow numbers), then big block out small block in (White/Cranberry) #7Jr.in 1978 and 1979. |
10.15.09 | Bill Walker | Man, you just gotta love the "high tech" driving shoes, can't tell if they're Keds or PF Flyers. . |
02.28.10 | Bob Turlip | The engine ran at Flemington because I bought it from Emmett |

Craig wore Converse All Star hi top sneakers when racing. I wore the same type of sneakers back then. I kidded Craig about it one night after the races in the pits, saying to him something like "Nice sneakers!!!". I showed him that I was wearing the same, however his were about 5 or 6 sizes bigger than mine! |
