Comments: Interesting photo...  Most know that Ken Brenn Jr. got his start in racing in 1972, while Stan Ploski drove the Ken Brenn Sr owned #24 modified coupe.  In 1973, Ken continued to run Sportsman and Stan continued to drive the modified... up until late in the season when the powerful Brenn/Ploski team split.  It was a shock to me... and to many other fans who felt that the team was so dominant, that nothing was going to stop it...   Nothing on the track that is...

The team split and Stan would finish out the year with a big victory at Flemington in the Pete Chesson #76, and would head to the Norcia #81 for the beginning of the 1974 season, while Ken would take to the modifieds in '74 in the family #24.

Racing is a strange business.... The highs... The lows... The long time in between each.  Things change.  Things that you think are forever take a different shape and before you know it, there's a new set of things "that you think will last forever..."

When I look at this picture, I see two competitors... side by side... inches apart...  Each knowing who was in the other car... Each knowing the history....  And I think of the years between the time young Ken first wheeled the Olsen coupe that Stan had raced at the end of 1971 and the time that this picture was taken in the mid 80's, some 10 - 15 years later...  And I think about those highs and lows... and everything in between.

...And when I do, I don't just see two racecars alongside each other anymore....  I think about what they were thinking as they battled side by side through 3 & 4 at Flemington.

03.21.12 Brian C. Loutrel I was at this race in 1986. It was a triple twenties feature program in July. Ken won one of the features, but both Stan and Ken were involved in violent flips, totaling both of these cars. Those twin, triple and four twenty lap feature Saturday nights at Flemington were, in my opinion, the most exciting feature events held there.
