Comments: | Comment: Joe Ruttman, who raced for quite a few years in the "Cup" level in Nascar here takes a turn behind the wheel in one of the cars usually campaigned by Brett Hearn. I have learned from you guys that Joe is actually the younger brother of 1952 Indy 500 winner Troy Ruttman. |

Two years prior to this a very patient Cos taught a very interested twelve year old what brushes to buy and allowed him to watch everything he did. From that point on that twelve year old would reletter Brett's cars as they became sand blasted throughout the year. Great practice for an aspiring letterer. C Ham letterin was born. By the time I was fourteen I was tasked with lettering replaced panels from scratch. Of course as Cos would have done them. If you look at this photo close the Pepsi is a bit less than perfect as is the interesting R added to the slightly uneven number. As Charlie Langenstein would say at the time at a hundred miles an hour a blind man would appreciate it. To this day I don't know why Cos took the time to teach me but sure do appreciate it. My lettering business paid for my first street stock at fifteen. Chris Hamilton |
