Comments: Hugh crowd on hand for the big track at National... Fast forward 20 years and you'll find that the crowds left, the speedway was reconfigured and paved, the crowds came back out of curiosity, but left once again and now all that's left are the memories.

07/18/04 Dominic Korzecki WOW ! This is such a great shot of such an awesome track. I wish this place didn't have so much financial trouble as it did because it certainly was supported by the fans (as we can see from this shot). If the car dealership, the STS and the Giant supermarket that surround the track now wouldn't complain, I'd say make it dirt again.

I could understand Roger Penske's vision back in '86 but he never understood that the Lehigh Valley's racing roots (or all of the Northeast's for that matter) was dirt. IRL and Busch series and all of the high-profile asphalt racing is exciting but looks like a fish out of water on Rt. 191. The track was built for local racing and that's where the fan base was concentrated. This track was a great place for the mods and I'd even venture in my opinion to say even more exciting than Syracuse.

Does anybody remember the night they had one of the Penthouse Pets signing autographs behind the grandstands? Then they had her standing in the tower in the pits wearing a fur coat because it was like 45 degrees outside w/ the dirt flying everywhere? I was only 6 or 7 years and what possessed my mother to let me hang her picture on my wall is beyond me.   I sure hope somebody comes along and saves that track. It truly is a great place !

09/08/04 Richard Pearson Dominic, the penthouse pet was Devina Celeste.  I still have the 8X10 in a scrap book.  Just thought I would add this piece of trivia!!! LOL
03/02/05 Fred Voorhees I'll never forget being at a modified race at this great track one week before Christmas, CHRISTMAS!  in a t-shirt. Incredible!!! The Gods honest truth.
01/28/06 Bill Hanna Fred, I was there also. It was when Lindy reopened the speedway. It was almost 70 that day in December. Brightbill won and Billy finished second in his own # 15.

I was there too Bill, you have the stats right from what I recall.    I remember before they re-opened it roaming around on it when it was overgrown, seeing the flooded tunnel, and bits and pieces of fence.
