Comments: The #19 pictured above, built and driven by Bob Rindgen, might possibly be the best looking "stock" bodied Sportsman to race at Flemington in the 80's.  This picture doesn't really bring out the subtle details, but you can see the rake of the car, the shades of gold, copper and blue that were used..., the way the lettering is shadowed and highlighted, the chrome wheels and chrome exhaust...  It all worked and made this little Mustang one pretty cool ride.

09/13/06 Matt Cranstoun Definitely a pretty mustang. Is that the door handle I see still on the door? My eyes may be messing with me...
09/13/06 Kevin Inglin I remember this car and how cool it was. If you look close enough you can
see that the sign painter added chrome painted door handles on the car that looked very real.

Having been a former sign painter, I can often tell who lettered a car by the lettering styles. I can't seem to put my finger on this one and don't want to guess wrong. Bill Nemec, Dennis Smith, Scott Kania, Scott Birkner, Rich Miller, Coz, Kevin Belmont, Rich Dombey (sp.?) and so many others have done some incredible work over the years.

Back in the day, when they lettered the cars by hand, some of the better ones could be an icon for the driver (The graduated stripe Ken Brenn gremlin for example)

The stickers today are nice but they are a bit to sterile at times and with the me-too body styles the cars of today have lost that all important uniqueness.
11/18/06 JIM YOUNG Talked to Bob last night at Bridgeport Speedway. Says he is currently rebuilding this car in his shop.
