Comments: Here's a special photo taken from the very first section of the 3rd turn stands at Flemington.  It's special for a few reasons...

Many people watched the action from the other side of the track, but I'm sure a lot of the Vault Faithful made their way over to this side of the track to catch the action from time to time.  I know that I didn't feel the night was complete if I didn't walk around early in the evening and catch the action from a few different vantage points.

This photo is also special because the #43 was driven by a young driver named Tony Leonard, who we lost just as his racing career... and his life, were taking off.

I'm guessing that Tony was probably in his mid 20's and was into his second or third year of racing... had a successful excavating business, and was a great guy when he lost his life in a motorcycle accident.  I worked with the crew of the A car which was owned by Big Barry Schenck and I know that Billy Schenck (Barry's son) and Tony were good friends and may have even gone to school together.

Those are just a few of the things that I think of when I look at this photo.  I'm sure you guys have your own set of memories too...

01.24.09 Matt Rosier This was 1989. We sat in turn 3 the entire season of 89. Wacthin em fly into turn 3 was quite the site to behold. Seeing Pauch's turn 4 sweep from this prospective was just awesome. In 1990 we moved over to turn 4 for a different view and stayed there. I can not believe it has been 20 years since, seems like 20 years sometimes but also seems like yesterday.
