Comments: Need some information on Sammy in the #38.

I was just thinking about how over my almost 50 years of going to the local short tracks, I've seen quite a variety of helmets and face protection.  During my first few years at East Windsor I saw a few 1/2 helmets (Pee Wee Griffin comes to mind), a bunch of 3/4 helmets with a pair of goggles and a bandana, or with either a face shield or a bubble shield (like above).  Some wore the 3/4 helmet with the pointy nose mask and goggles... and then eventually by the mid 70's, most guys were wearing full face helmets.   Of course in the past few decades,  better "lighter" helmets were developed and now most have a fresh air system plumbed in too.

While we're on the subject, it wasn't until a few years later that gloves with fire protection became mandatory too.
