A very destroyed racecar is all that remains... We don't know
if Ed was injured in the above wreck, but we do know that Ed went on to
drive for many, many more years after the above incident. Ed was a
racer till the end... participating in vintage events driving his little
white and blue #26 coupe... right up to the final year of his passing.
I can still picture him behind the wheel... where I think he liked to
be more than anywhere else. |

07.10.10 | John McCaughey | Very interesting photo, Joe. I see Barry Kutz's car to the right, looks like Ed may have hit him to start this wreck. My dad drove this car at Harmony once and wrecked it pretty badly when the throttle stuck, in fact I see him standing in the background behind the 33, directly above the seat. That's Ward Crozier to his left w/ the glasses. Jeez, this thing is torn up! If Ed didn't get hurt it's a minor miracle. Look at that seat! |
07.10.10 | Ed Duncan | That wreck was so bad that the engine was ripped out. |
07.13.10 | Jack Kromer | Yes, that is Craig and Ward in the back. This was the wreck that destroyed Frankie Schneider's famous sedan. Charlie Shire was driving it that day.I wonder if the #33 hit the #2 sedan head-on, because both cars had major front end damage. Maybe Frankie or Charlie could fill in the blanks on this crash story? |
07.23.10 | Rich Reinhart | Not that long ago we had a thread on the forum about the worst wreck you ever saw, this is the one I brought up.. Story is Kenny Golden couldn't see Barry Kutz`s stopped car on the backstretch due to a group of people standing on the water truck directly in the line of site from the corner to the flagstand. Don't think anyone was seriously injured, but I remember Dad loading the car up and going to see Charlie Shire who had some broken or bruised ribs, but was back at the track by the end of the night. |
02.12.12 | John McCaughey | Rich is right, that was this crash......between the sun in his eyes, the dust and the cars in front of him, Shire never saw Kutz's stalled car......helluva grinding crash.... |
