This is priceless.  Was it 67 when Wide World of Sports carried portions of Daytona?  Chris stood on pit road directing traffic as he reported on who was entering and leaving and they filled the cars with a gas can and funnel.  The cars had side glass which they rolled up during the race to cut down on wind resistance.  Big blocks and dual four barrels were the norm and to be eligible the manufacturer had to have produced 500 of each part or piece for purchase by the public and the roof and windshield had to be production pieces.

Except for maybe the big blocks NASCAR would do well to return to those days, especially stock sheet metal.

Great seeing that shot again.  I used to have the same shot in black and white cut from National Speed Sport News hanging over my desk at work.  Chris was definitely one of my heroes  It must have been great to spend your entire life doing something you truly loved.

Great photo because it is somewhat of a premonition of the event that was going to take place!! Chris was the announcer for the '67 Langhorne Open & Tas in the Piscopo 39 became one of the main contenders in the race. Within the first 25 laps of the race someone blew an engine on the front straight in front of Tas . Tas held the car in a controlled slide, but had to pit for tires & came out a lap behind. The remainder of the race Tas put on quite a show ,unlapping himself & finishing 2nd by a few car lengths to  Dutch Hoag . The entire race ,Chris was informing the crowd on Tas' advancement through the field. At the end of the race you could tell the respect Chris had gained for Tas as he talked about what Tas had accomplished. This was also the year that both Tas & Dutch Hoag came with spoilers on the roofs of their coupes.  I think my fading memory has most of this correct ,but feel free to add !!

Love this photo.  Chris Economaki picked my all time favorite to take a photo with.  The only thing that would make it better is Tas, himself in the photo.

I think Chris Economaki knew, unlike some people, that Tas should be in the top five of any list of Modified drivers.

He might be the best I've ever seen.
