Comments: | Comment: Bucky Barker with his #825 coupe. I've learned from you guys that this car was the former Lee Hendrickson #Z1, and I've also learned that Bucky's # came from the Heavy Equipment Operators Union that he belonged to. (If you guys know where Dallenbach's Sand Pit is off the turnpike in South Brunswick, there is a heavy equipment operators school training facility there, with a big sign visible from the NJ Turnpike that says "825", so you know what I think when I pass by that sign....) |

I believe this is the car that I saw Bucky flip down the whole back stretch at Flemington and he knocked was unconscious. I think it was dark purple in color. It was probably 1970-71 when I first started going there. We sat on the third turn right at the back stretch cross over gate. Can any of you old timers confirm that this is that car? |

Sure is, Lenny. Our families were very close over the years and I remember my dad stopping at the wreck and trying to help get Bucky out. I think the car landed upside down and as big as Bucky was, it was difficult to get the belts off him while hanging from them. They didn’t want to just pull the latch and let him fall, especially if he was unconscious. He was a tough guy though, once they got him out he pretty much just shook the whole thing off. |
