Car #: #57A
Driver (s) : Augie Lieber
Location: Flemington
Date: 1960's
Photographer: unknown
Photo provided by: Emery and Linda Husvar
Comments: Not too familiar with Augie's accomplishments as my days of spectating at Flemington didn't start until around 1970 or 71, but hopefully you guys will be able to help out...

There is something about this photo, and the era that is captured, that Emery (the fellow who sent us the photo) felt that it should be in the Vault.

We agree Emery.  Maybe it's the helmet, t-shirt, jeans... the laid back attitude...  I'm not sure, but it's a great photo.  Thanks for submitting it to the Vault.  We'd like to give photo credit, so if anyone can provide the photographer's name, we'd greatly appreciate it.

07/21/05 Spilly I think this the same Augie Lieber that owned the #57 modifieds from the
70's. Based on the number on his helmet, I think I'm correct.

One of #57 cars was a Schwinning chassis, and was kept in Dunellen, NJ
area. While not a weekly runner, this car made appearances at special
shows, like the "Schafer Qualifiers".

Some of the drivers I remember in this car were NY Supermodified ace
Jimmy Winks, Wes Moody and Mike Grbac.

I was told that Augie now resides in Florida.
07/24/05 Mike Monnat If my memory serves me correctly didn't Chuck Ciprich drive the Lieber car also.  I seem to remember Ciprich and Frank Mears tangling in a big race at Flemington back in the early seventies. If the memory is correct the Lieber car was a brown and white sedan with goldish numbers. I could be wrong on this but I do remember Ciprich driving a #57A car at Flemington a couple of times.
05/06/07 Mr. Dave What ever happened to Augie's sister Lori? She was a spellbinder!
09/12/08 fltlnjok Augie worked at a body shop in Raritan, NJ. During the early '60's, he and a couple of other guys went south for a little while to run some
dirt. Probably didn't do to them what Cagle & Buzzie did to us, but they must have had a great time. Augie brought back - and ran - an orange sedan numbered 57 on both doors . On the panel over the rear window was painted:

ORANGE CRATE- STRAITOUTTA DUBLIN, NC

Also was a friend of Craig McC. Augie's daily driver? A 1950 Ford Tudor.
