Comments: Comment from John Marelli:  John used to come to Flemington on occasion and was an interesting addition to the field....With a 1937 flatback sedan as a dirt car.   This car I think was mostly an asphalt coupe, and this pic was the only one of him Al and Jean Otto had....I liked him and the cars and had this pic all these years...

02/13/07 Ned Stites III I always enjoyed seeing John Gouveia on his visits to Flemington. I remember seeing the 1937 Ford and really liking that car. He was one driver that I didn't get to see often, but I remember him well and am sad to hear of his passing. Thank you Mr. Marelli for sending in such a wonderful photo.
05/30/07 Ray Brown Jr I remember John and his wife Emily and their daughters quite well even though I was very young at the time. My Dad, Ray Brown Sr and John were good friends and I remember many visits between families. He was a self-made man, extremely generous and just an all- around great guy. They just don't make them like Johnny Gouveia anymore.

He was scheduled to visit my Mom this year in North Carolina this when we heard of his passing.Thank you for the photo. It has been many, many years, probably close to 40, since I last saw John.
