Turkey Derby 2009
11/28/09

Packed house - again!

... Standing room only.

Tour cars head out for time trials...

Followed by the TQ heats...

...time for some people watching...  You never know who you might see at Turkey Derby... Here's the Oldbridge Outlaws (Chris Sr., Chris Jr. and Lee Allen)

New Egypt Speedway GM Danny Serano was taking in the action.

Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club's Ray and Nancy Shea...

Jason Hearne was either spotting for somebody or doing a bad Britney Spears impression with that headset and mic!

Nandi Palmai and his racing family...  Stefanie, Nandi Jr and Erika...  All have won in Karts at Wall and are now having success in the Micro Sprint Divisions at Bridgeport and Airport Speedways.

John Fillimon has been capturing the action since the 60's!

And Video Jim (Big Jim's Video's) has been on the job since the 90's and does a great job capturing the action at many local speedways...

Sportsman Feature takes to the track...

Close action as the #00 & #21 battle for the lead...

Now it becomes a 3 car battle as the #48 also bunches up behind the #00...

After following for a few laps, contact between the #21 and the #00 resulted in the new order of things...

Kevin Eyres heads for the white flag in the red#21...

Kevin Eyres in victory lane, only to be told later that he would be put back to 3rd for "over aggressive" driving... (Kevin would later say,  "No Problem"... I say, "*$#!&%$#*!@#$%!"

The fans that could find a seat, take to their seats for the start of the Tour race.... The rest had to stand!

The impressive field gets ready to take the green for Turkey Derby XXXVI...

An early race battle found Matt Hirschman followed closely by Rowan Pennick...

Real hard hit for the #02 as he almost left the speedway...  Others are involved.

...speaking of leaving the speedway, this is not what Mark Rogers #41 had in mind...

Jimmie "Showtime" Blewett makes an inside pass for the lead...(well, kinda inside)...  What's that out of the back of the #66?

During the next yellow, the officials check the #66 but can't find the source of the smoke...

Track official Jeff found a souvenir on the track... Looked like a 1" socket had fallen out of one of the cars from where we were sitting.  Don't be adding that to your tool collection Jim!

With only a handful of laps left, and Jimmie Blewett in the lead, the caution again waved...  The official spots something on the track, where the #66 had been stopped a lap earlier...

Jimmy get's the black flag while leading with about 10 to go for fluid leaking from the car...

The official points stops Jimmy to tell him that something is definitely leaking from the #66.  The fans were told that it was brake fluid.

A few laps short of victory, the #66 retires from the event.  (If only that last caution hadn't of come out...)

The remaining laps turned into a battle between Rowan Pennink and Pete Brittain...

Jim Morton grabs the checker flag from the starter to hand to Turkey Derby XXXVI winner Rowan Pennink.

Jon Meyer #67 leads the field to green in the Street Stock Feature event...

Big tangle between the #11 and the #02 exiting turn 4 resulted in the #11 riding the guardrail the length of the frontstretch...  And then things really got interesting...

Next up, the modifieds.  Here Jimmy Blewett in the #14 leads the field through turns 3 & 4 in the early going.  Jimmy would go on and take the win in the Modified Division.

...a long day, time to head home...  Weren't able to stay for the TQ feature which we hear was won by Paul Lottier Jr.   Great to see "Old Glory" still flying high over Wall Stadium!

Great job Jim Morton, Sue Simpson, Jeff Gravatt and the whole Wall Stadium crew.
