Comment: Dom Buffalino's #2B Gremlin.
Pretty sure it was a Profile chassis. I smile when I look at this
photo because Dom and the crew kept this car in the little garage next to
the house that was right by the intersection of Tices Lane and the Old Bridge
Turnpike, and my father and I had a weekly routine where we'd eat at the
Ponderosa on Rt 18 in East Brunswick (I think on Tuesdays), and then we'd stop by the Buffalino's
garage to check out the car and say hello to the crew. What was also very cool was Dom used to give me the used oil in a 5 gallon pail from the #2B since they changed it every week - It was "slightly used", but plenty good for me because I used that oil in my '64 Chevy II "woods car" that burned so much oil, I never had to change it.... Used to have to pull the plugs every couple of days to clean them up... Usually waited until the 194 CI straight six was down to 3 or 4 cylinders before I'd have to let it cool down and clean all the plugs..... It was a great time, and also a great learning experience... I think I was 14, and at 14, armed with my Chilton's Chevy II/Nova Service Manual, there wasn't much that could go wrong on that old car that I didn't think I could fix.... I miss dinner at the Ponderosa with my dad... I miss stopping by the garage and seeing Tony and Dom Buffalino and the crew.... And I miss cleaning the plugs on the old '64 Chevy II. |

02.13.15 | Ricky Rutt | Brought back memories when I read this. I had a 62 chevy II with a 194 straight six when I was 17. my first car, got it from my grandparents. it too used oil like crazy. was always puffing smoke out of the valve cover breather. I remember stopping at a gas station on my way to Flemington and told the attendant to "fill'er up". when he reached for the pump nozzle I said "not gas, oil". ahhh...good times |
