In this picture of Chamberlain (from 1975 at Flemington) it sure looks as though the RR is a carbon fiber wheel.  That is what I had on my sprint car (they were on it when I bought it), the difference in appearance is I had bead lock/mud covers and that gaudy orange (why the guy I bought it from had that color locks I have no idea).  If you remove the locks from my wheels they looked exactly like those on the 76.  My were from Marsh Racing Tire (MRT). The hub was aluminum but the beads carbon fiber and for $125.00 any and all damge was covered.  After repairing two (and getting DNFs in the process) I decided an aluminum wheel was worth the price, and it look a lot better.

I had no idea what a carbon fiber wheel was before I ran sprints.  My exposure was steel and aluminum for the guys who could afford that.  The carbon fiber wheels just did not hold up.  Any side contact almost invariably shattered the wheel, in fact look closely and you can see a chip out Chamberlain's.  Since most contact is with the outside wheel I wonder if he ran carbon only on the inside, something more durable against nerf bars and bumpers?

The things you pick up on looking at these pictures.  Another thing I though about, those two inch belts.  By the time I came along belts were three inches and even at that width race track rheumatism after a crash was significant, and Chamberlain took more than one good tumble at the square.

Great pic of a really nice looking Falcon when cars actually looked like cars and were individually designed and build, not kit cars.  And it was a Ford.  How much better can it get?
