About the same time Frankie got this King car, he also
received a Weld car. |

The color blue on the cage and the chromed rear bumper and
nerf bars makes me think this could have been the Billie Harvey owned No. 31
that Gary Balough drove at Syracuse in 1979. |

The King Car did come to Frank by way of Pee Wee Griffin. My
Father (Joe Inglin Sr.) was on the crew with Frank at the time and tells the
story of when it was acquired. Pee Wee Griffin called Frank about a party
that he was hosting. He didn't say where Pee Wee was at the time but for
some reason I think it was somewhere down south. Frank helped Pee Wee when
he was running East Windsor and other tracks and the story goes that Pee
Wanted to show him a debt of gratitude. Pee Wee didn't allude to Frank
anything about the car in the invitation but when he got there he let Frank
know he had something to show him.
Pee Wee led Frank out to a garage to check out this modified he had. He
encouraged Frank to get in and check it out. While Frank was sitting in it
he told him it's yours, you're going home with it. Frank rented a U-Haul
trailer and brought it back to NJ. The car was Metallic Brown and cream when
he brought it back to NJ and Frank took it to Harry Steinkopff to have it
painted the famous red white and blue trim. Frank ran the King Car for
several years but my father said he never seemed to be comfortable in it.
He use to refer to it as hop-toad. |
