05/10/03 | Bob G | I remember this race well- It was not "an official" outlaw race and allot of guys didn't show. Sammy was blistering around the square, and Doug Wolfgang scared everyone when he hit between 1 and 2 destroying the Gambler house car. Bob G |
02/01/04 | racerdj20 | I remember this race as well. Sammy killed the track record in the heat race and was even lapping cars at lap 6 of a 10 lap heat race. |
06/20/06 | Dwight Clark | I was at this race. After Wolfgang crashed early in the evening it was a foregone conclusion that Sammy would win. As I remember he lapped the field in the 30 lapper. The field consisted of Sammy & Wolfgang from the WoO, Steve Siegel and a couple of mid packers from Central Pa., and some URC cars. It was no contest. |
11/07/08 | DJ Pennett | I was at this race. We got to the track very early and were watching the cars arrive from our 4th turn seats, looking for the WOO drivers. I remember seeing Sammy's big red hauler coming North on Rt. 31, then trying to make the fairly sharp turn into the front gate. It took a bit of jockeying. Just another memory from the great days at Flemington. |
01.18.10 | George Gwynn | I was there that night too. Sammy
clearly demonstrated how wickedly fast the "Square" really was. Even for a
'seasoned' fan, he was scary fast. Sammy made mincemeat out of the
field at Bridgeport, as well, on a couple of occasions. Incredibly quick on
the big oval. He continues to be a 'flat-out' racer today well into his 50's. |
