08/03/03 Jim Murrow Bobby Allen, also known as "Scruffy", is a legend in Outlaw Sprint cars. Bobby was one of the original outlaws, and certainly he was one of the most talented of all time. Not only was he a great driver, but, he owned and built his own sprint cars. Bobby retired a few years ago, and the last I heard he was involved in a chain of "Bobby Allen Go-Kart tracks". Bobby hails from Florida and, as a teenager, is part of what I call the "Little Mooresville" story which appears under a Pee Wee Griffin picture in the 60s section of the vault. Here is a condensed version.

In the mid 60s, Walt Kinsley had a race shop next to his house, where he kept his #325 modified, that he drove under the name of Walt Donald. Walt also owned the house next door to his place, and had rented it to Sonny Dornberger.

An 18 year old Bobby Allen, (Scruffy), had just arrived from Florida towing a "Bug" type modified on an old hot rodded Ford Panal truck, with a pretty young girlfriend, who would soon became Bobby's wife. He was stabled at Dornberger's place and racing in Pa., since the 32-34 Ford coupes, like his, weren't legal in NJ

Sonny was building and/or maintaining several race cars at that time, including my sportsman, Stan Ploski, Jr.s car, the #69 sportsman that Jackie Hamilton was driving,. . Sonny's own #16, driven by Rags Carter, and others. Next door, at Walt Kinsley's place, three more Floridians were stabled, Bobby Brack, Pee Wee Griffin, and Gil Hearn.

So, you had Bobby Allen, Gil Hearn, Bobby Brack, Pee Wee Griffin, Walt Donald(Kinsley), Rags Carter, Jackie Hamilton, Stan Ploski, and me - 9 cars, including 4 Florida cars and 5 Florida drivers, all stabled, or in some way racing out of a 500 foot strip of a 2 lane country road, in a rural area of southern NJ. = "Little Mooresville"    Thanks, Jim Murrow

08/03/03 Kevin Mc Looks like he’s at Bridgeport.
05/10/08 Charles Weber Did not realize that he was living in Jersey at one time!!! I have only known him out of his shop in Hanover PA...always neat when the outlaws would come into town there, they would all just hang out at his shop and race the go-carts...
