Comments: | Comment from Bob Becker: Here is a photo that I took of the late, great Larry "Smokey" Snellbaker in the radical Pop Lloyd Pocket Rocket at Williams Grove Speedway on May 13, 1982. Smokey was one of the best ever in Central PA. |

10.14.11 | ChMiller | You never forget the first time you see this race car run. Pop Lloyd had put together something special and you just knew it, and Smokey was just the guy to drive it. After many years of watching certain drivers get really "Hooked up " , coming off a turn, they would pull the LEFT front wheel off the track. When the #56 got "Hooked up" it had so much cross weight , it raised the RIGHT front wheel off the track. If you notice the little wing on the front, it's only over the right front wheel. This fine piece of machinery can be seen at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing in all of it's glory. |
02.12.12 | Jim Maxson | I took a ride with Bob Gibb one day to Pop Lloyd's shop to
pick up parts. Pop was a super nice guy and did a shop tour for Bob and
myself. Pop had so many great stories about Smokey, some where down right
funny. Pop was a wealth of information. I am glad I took that ride to meet
Pop The Pocket Rocket was trashed heavily at Port Royal Speedway with Frank Fiore driving after breaking and axle. There is video of it on youtube by Johnny Strawser AKA jstrawse youtube handle. The car was rebuilt and is shown on vintage meets. Very cool car back in the 80's. |

FYI, Pop was a standout boat builder in the APBA inboard hydroplane divisions for many yrs. |
