The first time I saw Gary run, you just knew he was a racecar driver. He had purchased Mitch Smith’s “Flying Tiger” car #2. It was  an older little super while most of the drivers were switching over to sprinters. Now painted brown and #6, he took to the track like he was a veteran He wasn’t a regular at Lincoln Speedway, so when he first showed up, everyone was watching him in warm-ups. SMOOTH is the best word I can use to describe him. I remember he qualified in his heat, and ran a solid top 10 in the feature, not bad for a start of a very long and illustrious career.

Gary was always a fan favorite.  I can still remember the night at Big Diamond when he got seriously  burned in a sprint car.  I'm not real sure but maybe that car was owned by some guy from Allentown, Pa.  that owned a scrap yard & maybe Jimmy Seidel wrenched it.
