01.21.09 | Charlie Miller | Opening day Williams Grove Speedway 1970. Jan driving the
Harold Hanks #4 all black sprinter. Nobody had heard of this "Flying
Hippie" from Hayward California. After chasing Lynn Paxton (my Mom and Dads favorite driver by the way ), for 20 laps , Jan pulls a slide job on Paxton and goes on for the win. This didn't go over to well with Mom and Dad. After the race , while the Late-Model feature was lining up, Jan comes up in the grandstands. When he walked by Mom, she yells at him " why don't you get a haircut ". Jan heard her and turns and comes over and sits right down beside her and says " you know maybe I will now that I made a little money today." He continued to sit and talk to Mom and Dad for a little while and won himself several new fans that day ! |
