Jackie Lynch... A Great Sounding Race Car Driver Name

As a teenager attending the races at Alcyon in Pitman, and Vineland Speedway in New Jersey,  I was always was "intrigued"   for a lack of a better word, by the name Jackie Lynch!  Whenever the red and yellow Sportsman car 1 Jr. came out and the driver's name announced it sounded "racy or fast" to me.

Later in life I was fortunate enough to meet Jackie and spend some time with him, finding out what a great guy he is.   If you look in the dictionary under local driver, Jackie's picture should be there.  The first photo shows Jackie after a heat win in te 1 Jr. The second was taken in the Williams Garage.  Jackie worked at Williams' and help build the 717 pictured in the last Senior Moment.  It was thought by many that Jackie would get the seat in that car but the opportunity never materialized with the exception of a "shakedown", I believe.  As far a being local, the last time I spoke with Jackie was about 10 years ago.  At the time he lived in Vineland within a couple of blocks of Williams Auto parts and in addition, the other two places I recall where he was employed for years, were within a half mile of his home!

The portrait photo I think is so terrific.  No pretense, what if the coverall have a little "battery acid" treatment on the front, the helmet is lettered!

I don't remember Jackie ever winning a feature but I know he won heats   The last time I saw him drive was at Vineland after it was paved in 1958.  He was there with the 1 Jr., only then it was powered with a Chevy with 6 - 2's I believe.  He soon faded from the picture in a few seasons, I guess his career ran a total of seven of eight years.  Regardless, he was what our sport was built on, drive and desire.  Thank you Jackie Lynch for the memories and your contribution to racing.

12.21.11 Steve Elias Jack used to work for Neal's brother which was next door to Neal's shop. Neal's brother sold used car parts. I can't remember the brothers name but somebody will. Neal dealt with foreign cars and went to insurance auctions and bought cars that had been in accidents, sold the parts and rebuilt some of the cars. One in particular was a Jag convertible that he restored and sold to Pete Marcachi who used to own the #19 that Herb Shock drove and also Rags Carter. I worked for Neal for awhile driving a car carrier when he bought cars at the sale I would load them up and take them back to the shop.  Hope this helps.
