Handling the Pressure and Racing!

William Curley really helped out this Senior Moment when he took this interior shot of a stock car in 1955. Here are some things seen, please feel free to correct them or give us some of your thoughts.

A. It has easy access with doors that open.

B. No side bars to get in your way!

C. No cross roll bar over the front windshield opening, but
roll bars over the side doors, at least!

D. Top of the line aircraft type seat.

E. Military safety belt bolted to the seat with a safety chain looping around the frame rail.

F. Hand pressure pump to build up fuel pressure in the tank to feed fuel.

G. Regulator to adjust air pressure to the tank. (a new set up to me, would like some details if someone could help)

H. Standard steering column that came with car.

I. Top shift transmission with re-shaped stick.

K. Gauges add but still the use of an ignition key!

L. No cracks in the windshield yet! Early season photo.

08/15/08 Warren It looks as if that roll cage was sturdy enough, as the car must have overturned along the way. Check the dents in the roof. Looks like a '37 Ford coupe.
08/15/08 John Hager By the looks of the inside of the roof panel....that roll cage has been tested!

Excellent photo showing the "office" for a typical Stock Car racer of the day. Thanks for sharing it!
08/17/08 John Armbruster This is a great photo. The ignition key is priceless. Does anyone know what that set up is behind the seat? It looks like brake lines and some kind of manifold.
09/11/08 Stan W Ignition switch probably bought in a local auto parts store. Not a Ford
setup. Also NOT a '37. The shape of the rear quarter window is the one used for '38 to '40. I'm a Chevy guy, but the '37 Fords had a larger rear quarter window than the later ones.
