Everyone Else Was Racing for Second Place!

My Dad took this photo in the pits of Westport Stadium in Baltimore, Md. When I printed the shot and showed it to him, his first comment was "When you saw that car come into the pits, you knew everyone else was racing for second place"

Frankie was almost like a hometown guy here in Maryland, having raced so much down here and lived here for a while with Ken Marriott. In 1954 he could race NASCAR sanctioned races Thursday night at Dorsey Speedway, Friday at Lanham Speedway, Saturday at Westport and Sunday at Wilmington, Del. and back up to Jersey. He could even change those tracks by heading to southern Delaware or Virginia for more NASCAR points.

Although Johnny Roberts won the Westport points title in 1954, Frankie took the most feature wins with 7. He took 5 wins at Dorsey between April 8 and May 27, but headed somewhere else the rest of the year.

Whether it was in a sportsman, a modified or a late model, Frankie Schneider spent a lot of time in Maryland and took home a lot of wins.
