"SuperMODELS"

From Jere Quallio:

Here is a picture of the model I built of my Dad's car he ran in 1973 at Reading.  It took me about 2.5 months to build and has actual dirt from the Reading Fairgrounds on it.

(Here's two before hitting the track...)

...and here's a few after running the Reading Clay

I am also sending photos of a Mike Grbac model that I did a couple of years ago.

(Note from 3Wide:  It stirred up different emotions posting the #47 as many will recognize this as the car that Mike was injured in at Reading, and later passed away as a result of those injuries.  I can remember being affected by the crash and feeling betrayed by our sport for letting this happen... Maybe many of you felt the same way...  We decided to post the pictures of the #47 model because it was built out of respect for Mike, and we will always remember.

03.14.10 Woody Barnett Jere -  you did a great job with your Dad's car. I just love looking at the old pictures and the other things on the web site.

Thank you,

04.14.10 Tommy Hiester Jere,

Hi! Great job on your dad's car. Also I know your brother Richie used to race the H.O. slot cars with us. I don't know if you have an interest in them but we are in Shillington. My name is Tommy Hiester. Your dad knows me too. My website is listed on the 3 Wide site. Look me up as we have a big H.O. slot car race coming up on Thursday nite April 29th here at our track. Maybe you would be interested in coming & joining us.

Your Friend In Racing,

Tommy Hiester
05.19.10 Jim Bagley Jere great job. Where did your dads car originate?Did he end up with the 15 Shoo fly car before this? It was always one of my favorite cars ,great lines. I built a model that looked very similar 45 yrs. ago (1965). Only a couple looked much like this. It was a yellow 24 like Brenn car colors but built like your dads and before either.  Hope your dad is well thank him for the thrills.
05.24.10 Jere Thanks for the nice comments. I'm pretty sure that my Dad built this car with the help of his friends. Not particularly his favorite, results wise. He said he had a lot of bad luck with it. Like when he tore down the third turn fence.

It's really interesting to me to hear about all happenings from good ole days of READING. I came along too late and missed it.

Note to Tommy Hiester (2 posts above):
Tommy, Racing ho cars sounds like fun, But my Arizona residents would make it really hard for me to join in. I remember you painted some cars for me way back in the early 80's. We would see you at Penn National.

It's always challenging building these old cars in scale, because they were all so unique. I'm glad this turned out well and people like it... Jere
