Pete Frazee was one of New Jerseys best asphalt modified drivers in the 1950s and 1960s with forty-one wins at Old Bridge Speedway alone. The year was 1958 when he also competed in two NASCAR series races (of course now known as the Sprint Cup Series). One of the races in the early days of NASCAR was held at the half mile short track in New Jersey’s Old Bridge Stadium on April 17, 1958. There were twenty-seven cars in the starting field. Pete drove the #41, which was a 1958 Ford Fa 500 Club Victoria with a 300 HP Interceptor 352 Special V-8 engine. Pete completed 171 of the 181 laps of the 93.5 mile race. He finished in 15th place earning a whopping $70 for his efforts.

Pete's other NASCAR series race of that era was the Northern 500 held a month later on May 30, 1958 at Trenton Speedway, also in New Jersey. Head gasket issues prevented Pete from improving upon his finish at the Old Bridge Stadium race a month earlier. He finished the Trenton race in 20th place and a check was cut to him in the amount of $240.

This page presented here in “3 Wide’s Picture Vault” contains photos of my model replica of the other race car #41 driven by Pete. It is the Racz’s Garage yellow 1937 Modified Ford Sedan. This car was driven by Pete from 1957 to 1959. He then moved to drive the Woody’s Garage #68 gold 1937 Modified Ford Sedan from 1960 to 1964.

Pete was the 1957 Track Champion at Old Bridge Stadium and the 1957 Track Champion at Wall Stadium. He was inducted into the Eastern Motor Sports Hall of Fame in January 1998. Pete passed away on February 24, 2010 at the age of 83.
