I bought the red #3 from George Smith, (Statewide) to backup for Jim Horton
(most refer to as "Sr.") when Jim ("Sr.") owned the car that Sammy drove
(the year with the Cadillac -1979) Jim didn't get it done on time for the
early season, so Sammy drove the car at Flem and EWS (my #33 as pictured
above.) When Jim got the Cadillac done, he took the #33 that we had
been running because Sammy was running top 5 in points at Flem (I remember
him finishing 2nd there once) and they transferred my points over to Jim.
I had Sammy drive the at EWS with the Weld car. When it was Statewide's, Osmun, Balough, Horton, and even Rich Evans ran it once at Syracuse. When I got it, I changed the Weld inboard springs over to torsion bars and outboarded the front shocks, so it was a Weld car look but with different suspension altogether...
