12/27/03 Dominic Korzecki I really love this photo and hope to get a print from Roy if possible. When I look at this picture, I think about how it must have felt to be the first jockey ever to have step foot on this track over 100 years ago when it was nothing but a fair attraction. It's amazing to think how much 5/8 mile track can influence thousands upon thousands of people. I bet they had no idea back then and we had no idea either, until now. At the risk of sounding sappy, I believe we will see Flemington again after we leave here one day.  Boy will that be a heck of a race!  Dominic Korzecki
01/02/04 Gary Lileck When you look at the empty grandstands and the decaying Flemington Speedway, you just can't help to fall in a state of sadness. This is a very nice photo, but pretty sad too. What great memories I have from Flemington in the early/mid 80s. We sat in turn one, just before the anti-Pauch section lol. Everyone would boo Billy when he entered turn one, and he would wave back. Who could forget the dust flying upon us as the cars scrambled into the corner. It was what made Flemington. We loved it. When they changed it to asphalt I vowed never to return, however, when rumors started flying about Flemington's possible closing-I decided to make one first/last asphalt trip in 2000. I couldn't believe how the crowd count had lowered. It just seemed different. But Flemington's old spirit was still there. And it is still there today. Sadly, though, we may see a shopping complex there. But whatever will be built there, Flemington will still be Modified Country to me.
