Comments: Comment from Jack:  This scene was a racing let-down moment for all of us Northeast modified fans, for sure. We were all cheering on Tighe Scott at Daytona that day back in 1979. What a thrill it was seeing him run right up there in the top 3 at the biggest race of the year. I was lucky enough to end up in Tighe's pit near the end of that race. I wanted to get that last pit shot in case he won the race. We all know what happened after that. He hit Benny Parson's water near his pit, slid and stalled. What a bummer. Man, what could have been. Would have been the coolest Daytona 500 ever, but it was not meant to be.

Here's that last Tighe Scott pit stop, where the crew is trying to get his car restarted. A memorable heart pounding moment in that pit, that I won't forget.

I'm sure i am in this photo, i was there in the ROBERTS section.  This was my first 500, and i guess it was a good first impression.  I can't over estimate to you how close Tighe came to winning this race.  We almost had a local modified driver win the 500. It was surely exciting to witness.
