Comments: Comment from Scott Ely:  This is a photo taken by my mom back in the early 50s of my Uncle Mel Ely.  Mel, my dad’s younger brother, drove hot rods for my Uncle Clyde Kelly (married to Mel and my dad’s sister Georgiana).  My dad lettered the hot rods that usually number 4.  He always painted the Disney character Pluto on the side carrying a checkered flag.  Looks like Uncle Mel is working on his next motor/chassis combination for the upcoming racing season at New Egypt (then it was asphalt), Arneys Mount or Hightstown (1/4 asphalt track that became East Windsor).

Forgot to mention that Lynn Whitehouse (married to Al Whitehouse) was the niece of Mel Ely and my dad Carl.
