My guess... over 900 street rods, show cars, vintage racecars,
trucks, motorcycles, along with hit & miss engines, tractor pulls, belt driven mill
style saws, flea market area, food venders... and even a couple acres of a graveyard of
old cars from the 40's to the 70's.... The best thing however about this unique event is
the attitude of all in attendance. Laid back, relaxed, friendly... Had to kept asking
people, "Are we still in Jersey?"
The event is held on the 200+ acre site of Fleming's Auto Parts in English Creek, NJ and
there couldn't be a better place to hold such an event. I've been to dozens of car shows
with aisle after aisle of cars lined up on black top and it just doesn't compare to
today's event.
Walking among the cars parked around and under the pines and scrub oaks of Fleming's on a
perfect autumn day is about as good as it gets. Plenty of racecars of the past on hand too
(some just the shells!) with the 6 cyl Skinner #659 Vega catching a lot of attention and
driver's Sal Moschella, Chic Cossabone and others seen enjoying the sites.
Thanks to Rick Broschard for pushing me to make the 70 mile drive down this year after
missing it last year. (It's only about 10 minutes SE of where the Parkway and AC
Expressway cross).
I guess my 8 year old liked it too. He took 292 pictures...
Thanks to Harry Fleming, Ralph and Rick Broschard and the entire staff who were involved
in putting together one of the best events we've ever been to: Pumpkin Run 2004.
Already planning on attending the next one! |
