Comments: | Here's a photo that's sure to bring back memories to any of us who were kids back in the late 60's and early 70's and were fortunate to spend our Saturday Nights at Flemington. Some nights we were even more fortunate than others as we had a few quarters in the pocket which meant we could buy another one of those cool little plastic coupe cars with the little skinny plastic tires at the Al and Jeanne Otto Novelty Stand! |

09/06/04 | Walter Onora | Oh, yeah. I remember this stand. One of the first photos I purchased was form this stand. Still have the photo. The photo is the Fodor 13, driven at that time by Joe Kelly!! |
11/15/04 | 3-Wide | This photo is a little blurry, but I wonder I'm thinking this may be the only photo of the novelty stand open for business! Glad to see it's already bringing back the memories for others as it did for me. |
11/15/04 | Ed Duncan | That picture brings back a lot of memories.they also had a stand at Old Bridge where you could buy those plastic stock cars for 25 cents and buy a 5x7 picture of your favorite driver for 50 cents. And dont forget about a copy of ISN or NSSN for 25 cents a piece. Great Pic |
11/20/04 | Ned Stites | I still have my "Go Tasnady" button and several pictures purchased at that stand. All of the little coupes I had were wrecked in races in my backyard. I had a plastic helmet and goggles too. You just don't get that warm feeling today like it was when the Otto's ran that novelty stand. Another one of many reasons Flemington was so special. |
3/5/08 | Roger McCloughan | I still have my original little plastic coupe (red) with the
skinny white wheels that I bought at the Otto's stand in the 1960's. I also
have a duplicate from the '80's that my Dad Roger Sr. who ran the plastics
mold and extrusion plant at Kuhl Corp. in Flemington (Paul Kuhl's company)
made after they bought the molds. The original cars were a shiny plastic,
and the later duplicates that my Dad's plant made are a dull polystyrene
finish. If anyone is interested, they may be made again soon! Check out the Eastern Auto Racing Historical Society webpage for more information at http://www.earhs.org/ |
