These tires worked great on a soggy track, but they were useless on a
hard, dry surface. In the mid-70's, East Windsor was usually a swamp when you first drove
up. Mid-way through the night the track was dried out. The result was you had to have two
sets of tires to be competitive. You needed the Drag 500's for the heat race and harder
compound, lowerprofile tries for the feature. You also had to change rear axle gears when
you changed tires. All this added to the cost of racing. |
