Comments: Not sure if this is just before the covered grandstand, or just beyond it, but it will remind many of us of the days where if you didn't get to the track early, you sat in the bottom row!

Take a good look... maybe you're in there somewhere!

07/25/06 Carl Silliman I see the Fitzcharles family, Glenn's wife JoAnne, and her immediate family sitting on the first three rows in the middle of the picture. Also I think I see a very young Debbie Rio, front row.

This particular section is next to the covered grandstands towards the first turn. I sat there with the Fitzcharles crew for several years, got to know Glenn and family well, and it brings back many memories. Thanks Kevin for the look back.
07/27/06 Dominic Korzecki Of the million reasons why I feel that Flemington was the greatest place to watch a race, I think this photo shows the seating was huge part of it.

Flemington was real unique because the grandstands were raised above track level. Even if you sat in the front row, you still were looking down on or at least at roof level with the cars. It kind of had a coliseum feel to it no matter where you sat around the track. Something about being able to look down upon the races made it even a better show than it was already.

Man, I miss that place more and more everyday!
09/29/06 Fred Voorhees This is to the 1st turn side of the covered grandstand. You can see the awning type roof over the outside porch of what was called the Purple Room to the right side of the photo.
09/06/08 Bert Gano While viewing old Jackie McLaughlin pictures, I came across this picture.

The lady standing on the top row by the black pole all the way toward the left, (curly hair, glasses and of course her flannel shirt) happens to be my Mom, Doris Sipler. She was at the race track every week all of my life (usually 1st one there to save seats). After all the years of watching the races she ended up being in Mark Fusco's Chicken Stand as many people will well remember her as "The Chicken Lady". What a shock to see this picture.

Sadly, she passed away on Nov.26,2006. Also, the person to her right could be one of her grandsons (Stan Zemanek).  He would be around 10 or 11 years old in that picture. My son Harry Gano would have only been around 5 years old at that time.

Thanks for the picture and the memories.

09.09.10 Garry Boekhout I do believe the guy with the camera on the top row is non other then Jeff Kristensen. The guy to his right speaking to someone is his brother Gary.

The person to his left is Breen Halpin. I know this because when I went to Flemington to race I usually brought these boys with me. They helped me every week in my garage on the number 33.

Thanks for the memories.
