Comments: Comment:  I'm told that this is Harry Benjamin.  Would any of you be able to confirm if this is the same Harry Benjamin that drove open wheel and used to really fly around Flemington?

Gentlemen,  This could certainly be the same Harry Benjamin of open wheel fame. I have a posed picture taken at Five Mile Point and it's Harry standing next to the very same car that's pictured here. Before Harry got his start in open wheel racing he competed in both the "bug" style cars which raced at his home town track, VFW Raceway in Towanda, Pa. as well as Chemung Speedrome, Ithaca-Dryden Speedway and Dundee Speedway as well as racing a coupe #184 at Five Mile Point in the early sixties. He also put in time on the pavement track at Shangri-La with Modified cars in both the seventies and eighties.

I saw him compete in all of the above venues and types of cars along with both the Midgets and Sprints and why he wasn't more competitive with the "heavies" I don't know. That man could flat out drive a race car.

I hope that I was able to shed some light on this subject. Thanks for posting these awesome pages of Mr. Young's photographic talent.
